The REx-PN exam is a new Canadian Practical Nurse exam developed for the British Columbia College of Nurses and Midwives (BCCNM) and the College of Nurses of Ontario. It is an entry-to-practice exam for those applying to become practical nurses. The exam tests entry-level skills, knowledge, and judgment, which are what nurses need to know to practice safely as an entry-level PN. The exam is based on data collected from an analysis of RPN/LPN practice conducted in early 2019, a process that will be repeated every five years. The REx-PN exam is a Computerized Adaptive Test (CAT) instead of a traditional multiple-choice exam. During a CAT exam, the exam writer must sustain a pre-determined level of difficulty to show their ability.
The REx-PN Test Plan details the content areas that the REx-PN tests. It also describes the administration of the exam and REx-PN style item writing.
